Cuba coronavirus cases reach 48: details about 10 new cases

The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) of Cuba raised the number of coronavirus infections on the island to 48 but are monitoring more than 1220 suspected cases, according to information published by the state agency on its website Monday night.

The new report includes official information updated as of 12:00 pm noon on Saturday, March 21.

The Ministry of Public Health reported that Cuba admitted 954 patients for monitoring in clinical-epidemiological isolation centers and that another 30,773 people are being monitored from their homes. With the confirmation of the 10 new patients testing positive for COVID-19, the island’s coronavirus infection rate in Cuba rose to 35.

Below, ADN Cuba reports the information provided by the Public Health Ministry in Cuba on each of the new confirmed cases:

1. A 57-year-old Cuban citizen who is a  resident of the municipality Plaza de la Revolución in the Havana province. He arrived in the country on March 15 from Spain. Coronavirus symptoms began on the 15th, and on the 18th he was admitted to the Naval Hospital as a suspected case. According to the Cuban regime, he continues with a 'satisfactory evolution' so far.
2. A 42-year-old Cuban citizen who is a  resident in the Province of Pinar del Río. She arrived in the country on March 11 from Montevideo, Uruguay. On the 16th, she began with symptoms and on the 20th, was admitted to the León Cuervo Rubio Hospital as a suspected case. It continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
3. A 60-year-old Cuban citizen with residence in the Cotorro municipality, Havana province. She arrived in the country on March 15 from Asturias, Spain. On the 17th, he began with symptoms and on the 19th he was admitted to the Dr. Luís Díaz Soto Hospital as a suspected case. It continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
4. A 60-year old Russian citizen, with residence in the Playa municipality, Havana province. Shee arrived in the country on March 15 from the Dominican Republic. She started with symptoms on the 18th and on the 19th she was admitted to the IPK as a suspected case. It continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
5. A Cuban citizen with residence in the United States, 36 years old. He resides in the Palma Soriano municipality, Santiago de Cuba province. He arrived in the country on March 21 from the United States. He started with symptoms on the 15th and on the 22nd he was admitted to Villa Colibrí as a suspected case. It continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
6. A Cuban citizen of 42 years of age with residence in the municipality and province of Ciego de Ávila. She arrived in the country on March 15 from Louisiana, United States. She started with symptoms on the 17th and on the 19th she was admitted to the Nguyen Van Troi Isolation Center as a suspected case. It continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
7. A 49-year-old Cuban citizen with a history of high blood pressure. He resides in the Taguasco municipality, Sancti Spíritus province. He arrived in the country on March 17 from the Dominican Republic. He started with symptoms on the 17th and on the 21st he was admitted to the Rehabilitation Hospital as a suspected case. It continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
8. A 49-year-old Cuban citizen with a history of High Blood Pressure and Diabetes Mellitus. He resides in the Placetas municipality, Villa Clara province. He arrived in the country on March 20 from the United States. He started with symptoms on the 21st and on the 22nd he was admitted to the Manuel Piti Fajardo Hospital as a suspected case. It continues with satisfactory evolution so far.
9. A 94-year-old Cuban citizen who is a resident of the municipality Plaza de la Revolution in the Havana province. In the epidemiological study she is defined as a possible recipient of infection from her daughter who arrived in the country on March 7 from Madrid, Spain, and had presented mild respiratory symptoms on March 10. She remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
10. A 39-year-old Cuban citizen who is a resident of the town Consolation in the South. He arrived in the country on March 8 from Cancun, Mexico. His symptoms started on 17 March and he reported to the emergency department of the "León Cuervo Rubio" Hospital of Pinar de Rio the same day, where he remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
11. A 23-year-old Cuban citizen who is a resident of the municipality Matanzas. He works as an animator in a hotel in Varadero and had contact with three Italian tourists. He is at the emergency department of the ‘Faustino Pérez Hospital’ of Matanzas where he remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
12. An 18-month-old Cuban citizen who is a resident in Spain. The 18-month old coronavirus patient arrived in the country on March 17 from Madrid with his mother and began displaying symptoms on March 19. A family doctor referred the child to a specialist for consultation at the Guillermo González Polanco clinic of the Stews, Granma municipality where his family resides. In that institution, the 18-month old was diagnosed as a suspected case and was subsequently referred to the Joaquín Castillo Duani Hospital of Santiago de Cuba, where he is now admitted. He remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
13. A 19-year-old Cuban citizen who is a resident in Spain. She arrived in the country on March 17 from Madrid with her 18-month old son (referenced in the previous paragraph). Both the mother and son visited the family doctor's office, and were diagnosed as suspicious. Both the mother and son were referred to a specialist consultation at the Guillermo González Polanco clinic if the Stews, Granma municipality province, where her family resides. The clinic diagnosed the mother’s case as suspect and were sent to the Joaquín Castillo Duani Hospital of Santiago de Cuba, where she remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
14. A 27-year old Cuban citizen from the La Sierpe municipality, Sancti Spiritus province. He arrived on March 6 from Miami, Florida. The citizen reportedly started showing symptoms on March 16. On March 17,  the citizen was sent to the Tiller Clinic and subsequently sent to the Manuel Piti Fajardo Hospital of Villa Clara, where they remain admitted as an isolated suspect case.
15. A 58-year old Cuban citizen from the town Trinidad in the Sancti Spiritus province. He remains in isolation at the Faustino Pérez Rehabilitation Hospital Center and is one of the confirmed cases. On March 18 he began showing symptoms and was closely monitored. He remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
16. A 56-year-old Canadian citizen who arrived in Cuba from Mexico on March 9. He stayed in a rented house in the Plaza de la Revolution municipality, Havana province. He began showing symptoms on March 16 and on March 19 entered the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine. He remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
17. A 76-year old Canadian citizen who arrived in Cuba from Mexico on March 10. He stayed in a rented house in the Plaza de la Revolution municipality in the Havana province. He began showing symptoms on March 16 and entered the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine on March 19. He remains admitted as an isolated suspect case.
18. A 66-year old Canadian citizen who arrived in Cuba from Mexico on 14 March. He stayed in a rented house in the Plaza de la Revolution municipality, Havana province. They began symptoms on March 16 and entered at the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine. They remain admitted as an isolated suspect case.

     

Despite having given information about each of the 10 new cases, the MINSAP did not specify the data of the four patients diagnosed the day before.

“Of the 35 patients diagnosed with the disease, 33 remain hospitalized, two of which are reported in critical condition and one in serious condition. A medical team of specialists in intensive care and the Expert Group of the Ministry of Public Health continue to monitor them,” explained the state agency.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, other patients have a “clinically stable development.” To date, Cuba has one death by coronavirus, an 61-year old Italian tourist who was visiting Cuba, who was one of the first diagnosed COVID-19 cases on the island.
