The Embassy of Peru in Havana, Cuba, announced on its social media the new requirements for tourist

visas for Cuban citizens wishing to visit the South American country.

According to its

social media, Cubans who want to travel to Peru as tourists must be aware that the requirements for obtaining a visa have become stricter. Now, to obtain the Peruvian visa, an up-to-date bank statement with a minimum validity of six months and an average balance of at least 400,000 CUP or 1,500 euros during that period is required. Previously, the Peruvian government only demanded a balance of 100,000 CUP for one month.

Additionally, the applicant must prove ownership of a property and present a certificate showing a

clean criminal record. They must also submit flight tickets and a hotel reservation in Peru.

“The requirement for the new amount in the bank statement will be applied gradually to new applications

received from the date of this announcement,” they added.

The visa application must be sent via email with a form, a passport valid for six months from the

date of entry to Peru, and the bank statement. The deadline to submit the application is 30 days prior to the travel date.

Finally, they indicate that the visa fee is 30 euros.

In November

of this year, it was reported that a total of 1,931 Cubans have applied for a Temporary Residence Permit in Peru to regularize their migratory status.

Cubans represent 0.9 percent of the 214,633 requests, surpassed by Venezuelans (94.3) and Colombians

(2.4). They are followed by Ecuador, with 0.6 percent of the requests, and 1.8 percent corresponds to other nationalities, according to official information from the government of that nation.

According to the government, more than 63,000 Temporary Residence Permits have been issued and 36

,000 are pending collection, 16,000 files are under evaluation, and 80,000 people have scheduled appointments for biometric data registration.

With the permit, migrants can work formally, access financial services, obtain a driver's license

, have their degrees validated, and improve their quality of life. An essential requirement is to have no criminal background or international alerts.
