The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) documented at least 231 repressive actions against civilians in Cuba in February, including arbitrary detentions, threats, harassment, and abuses committed by authorities on the island.
The organization regularly monitors human rights violations in Cuba, including the arrest of activists, surveillance of dissidents, and abuses against political prisoners by the Cuban regime.
According to its latest report released Friday, the OCDH documented at least 231 incidents this month, including 31 arbitrary detentions and 200 other abuses committed by authorities.
The OCDH documented 83 cases of surveillance and police blockades of activists’ homes, along with 25 threats and 25 incidents of harassment, 21 police citations, and 32 abuses against political and common prisoners in Cuba’s prisons.
Havana, Pinar del Río, Ciego de Ávila, and Camagüey recorded the highest number of repressive actions in Cuba during the month.

In January, the organization documented 390 repressive actions in Cuba, including 42 arbitrary detentions and 348 other abuses attributed to the Cuban regime.
"The year begins with a surge in repression in Cuba, reflecting the regime’s evident nervousness following the capture of Nicolás Maduro," the OCDH said at the time.
"While announcing further hardships and restrictions for a population in which more than 89% live in extreme poverty, the regime is also mobilizing military forces to intimidate citizens and deter possible mass protests."
The NGO warned the international community about the escalation of repression in Cuba and called for increased attention to the island’s deteriorating human rights situation.
According to the organization, at least 3,179 repressive actions against civilians were documented in Cuba in 2025, while more than 800 political prisoners remained in Cuban prisons.
